Guelph Comedy Festival 2017 Schedule
Four days of funny in Downtown Guelph. With an all-Canadian lineup of award-winning stand-ups, improvisers and sketch acts, Guelph is about to shake with laughter. Nab yourself an all-access wristband, an individual show ticket or take your chances at the door. Here's who's coming and what to expect this season:
Wed. Oct 18: Celebrations Begin
The Making-Box & Guelph Comedy Fest Present: Fest-Timers
(7:30 PM @ The Making-Box)
The Guelph Comedy Festival tradition continues with this celebration of firsts. Come for the pleasant surprise. Stay for the train-wreck. This is the show where newbie comics take the leap together. Just ask yourself, would you have the guts to try stand-up for the first time? Come cheer them on!
LGBTQ+ Stand-Up Show ft. Chantel Marostica
(9:30 PM @ The Making-Box)
The energetic and highly praised comedy of Chantel Marostica (Just for Laughs, Winnipeg Comedy Festival, JFL42) returns again this year alongside a local LGBTQ line-up. A safe space to celebrate inclusion and equality, while having the best time. This show is brought to you by both the Guelph Comedy Festival and Guelph Pride. If you go to First Timers you can double down and get into this show for only $10 - if there's room!
Thursday Oct. 19: All Made Up, All Night Long
Improv ft. The Bloody Marys
(9:00 P.M. @ The Making-Box)
Guelph's own The Making-Box Brigade hosts a night of improv with special guests Bloody Marys. Absurd. Aggressive. Hilarious. These two former Second City cast-mates shared a stage, and now they’ll share a place in your heart. You just might not like how they got in there. Just don’t say their name three times.
Friday Oct. 20: A Very Funny Friday Night
2017 Gala Show ft. Chris Robinson and Songbuster (An Improvised Musical)
(8:00 P.M & 10 P.M. @ THE MAKING-BOX)
Bust a gut, then bust a move. A stand-up starter with a fully improvised musical entree. Rising star Chris Robinson (JFL42, Just For Laughs, Sirius Next Top Comic Winner) returns to our festival. He co-headlines with the sensational Songbuster - an all-star collective of 7 improvisers who create full musicals on the spot. At their shows, every night is opening night.
SATURDAY OCT. 21: A COMEDY BLOCK-PARTY OF SKETCH, STAND-UP AND IMPROV
ONE NIGHT. FIVE SHOWS. THREE VENUES. See all kinds of comedy in all of its glory with some of Canada's most amazing comedic talent. The only way to guarantee spots at any of these shows is with a festival wristband. All other tickets will be $20 at the door, or $10 at the door if it's your second show of the night.
STAND-UP SHOW FT. JOE VU AND HOODO HERSI
(7:00 P.M @ RED BRICK CAFE)
(8:30 P.M. @ THE CORNERSTONE)
Joe Vu has been killing it on the comedy circuit with appearances on CBC The Debaters and The Winnipeg Comedy Festival. Hoodo Hersi has performed comedy festivals all over and also writes for VICE and The Beaverton. Both comedians are commended for representing the under-represented voices in comedy. So come hear something new for once!
IMPROV SHOW FT. FAKE COPS
(8:00 P.M. @ THE MAKING-BOX)
The outlandish theatre-packing production of Fake Cops has gained them a strong following in Toronto and the 2015 Emerging Artist Award from Bad Dog Theatre. See what the fuss is about as they take The Making-Box stage.
STAND-UP SHOW FT. COURTNEY GILMOUR AND MARITO LOPEZ
(8:30 P.M. @ RED BRICK CAFE)
(10:00 P.M. @ CORNERSTONE)
Two powerhouse comedians on the same bill. Twice in one night! Courtney Gilmour is one of Canada's fastest rising comics. This year, she became the first woman ever to win the Just for Laughs Homegrown Comics Competition and will soon appear on Kevin Hart's new show LOL. Marito Lopez has made appearances across major Canadian festivals including JFL42 and NXNE, as well as regular performances at Yuk Yuk's.
SKETCH SHOW FT. DAME JUDY DENCH
(9:30 P.M. @ THE MAKING-BOX)
Sex, existentialism, feminism, breakups, death and disaster. Sounds dark, but somehow Dame Judy Dench's sketches finds lightness within these subjects. The Canadian-Comedy Award nominated troupe makes you think, while you laugh at the absurdity of it all.
THE LATE NIGHT MASHUP
(11:00 P.M. @ THE MAKING-BOX)
There will be a lot of comedians in town, so let's bring them all together. The final show and after party kicks off at The Making-Box. We keep the cheer and chuckles going for everyone who still has belly muscle enough to laugh.
