JOE SORBARA

Canadian drummer and percussionist Joe Sorbara has spent more than two decades developing a reputation as an imaginative and dedicated performer, composer, improviser, organiser, writer, and educator. They have played and recorded with Ken Aldcroft, Jared Burrows, Anthony Braxton, Nikita Carter, François Houle, Germaine Liu, Evan Parker, Allen Ravenstine, Clyde Reed, and Friendly Rich, among many many others. 

Joe is a long-time student of master drummer Jim Blackley. The hold an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from York University in Toronto and a Master’s degree in English from the University of Guelph where their work focussed on critical improvisation studies, literary and cultural theory, and pedagogy. They are currently studying toward a PhD with the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation. Joe has worked extensively as a workshop facilitator and guest lecturer and has taught for twelve years in the School of Fine Arts and Music at the University of Guelph.

JONATHAN KAY

Jonathan Kay is an internationally recognized cross-cultural multi-instrumentalist, hailing from Toronto, Canada. He graduated from Humber College as a saxophone player in 2004 with Honours in Jazz Studies. In search of non-western ways of musical knowing, Jonathan formally studied North Indian Raga music in Kolkata, India, and Japanese shakuhachi music in Kyoto, Japan. Based on the integration of these contemplative musical traditions with that of experimental improvisation, Jonathan has been recognized for creating a distinctive and compelling voice in contemporary improvisation and composition.

CATHY NOSATY

Cathy Nosaty is a musician, composer, musical director and teaching artist. She began her musical training at age three as a classical pianist and her love of creative collaboration led her to work in dance, theatre, scoring to picture and community-engaged arts. Over the past thirty-eight years Cathy has created scores for over one hundred theatre productions across Canada: her work has been heard on international stages with Ronnie Burkett Theatre of Marionettes, Manitoba Theatre For Young People and DynamO Théâtre. Cathy has scored a dozen documentary films including The Motherload for CBC Doc Zone and was Assistant Conductor/Keyboard 1 for the Toronto company of Jersey Boys. As a passionate teaching artist, Cathy has worked with programs at the Canadian Opera Company, Massey Hall/Roy Thomson Hall, Tapestry Opera, the Royal Conservatory of Music, TDSB/Prologue for the Performing Arts, Children’s Peace Theatre and Princess Dance Productions. Cathy led community choirs for Community Arts Guild’s Unfolding and Moving Parts for Fujiwara Dance. Cathy has been nominated for five DORA awards and for the 2020 Louis Applebaum Composer Award – Music For Young People. She is a member of the Toronto Musicians Union Local 149 and the Screen Composers Guild of Canada. She is a University of Guelph M.A. candidate in Critical Studies in Improvisation.

GCVI IMPROV TEAM

The GCVI improv teams are a battalion of rapscallions from GCVI in Guelph - they’ve been working in our current iteration for over 3 years, and have been growing with more teams every year! They are a group of students from Grade 9 to Grade 12+, and for the Guelph Comedy Fest, they’ll be featuring some members from all of their teams playing a few games - we hope you enjoy, and come out to enjoy their shows!

JASON DALGLEISH

Jason Dalgleish is one of Guelph’s stand-up darlings because he makes us laugh and brings us together as a community. He has been performing since 2017 and has been featured at Hillside, Guelph Comedy Festival and on professional stages across the Tri-Cities, the GTA and the rest of Ontario. As a curator of awesome comedic talent, Jason has an eye for new faces on the rise and highlights up-and-comers at his open-mic at Shoeless Joes every Monday. He also hosts seasoned pros at his (free!) comedy show at Fixed Gear Brewing every Tuesday. Want to know what he’s up to the rest of the week?

JACKIE PIRICO

Named by Exclaim! Magazine as a quickly rising force in comedy and an “adept comic scene stealer” by The Hollywood Reporter, Jackie Pirico delights audiences with her oddball material and high-energy style. With multiple television tapings under her belt, Jackie’s stand-up performances can be seen on Crave's JFL All Access, CTV's The Stand Up Show, CTV's Roast Battles Canada, and more, and she recently made her sitcom debut on the award winning series Children Ruin Everything. Jackie has released two stand-up albums: Dream Phone (2019) and Splash Pad (2022), the latest of which was nominated for a 2023 JUNO award.

KATIE CHIN

KATIE CHIN is an actor, writer, singer, and comedian. She is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory Program and the recipient of The Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award for outstanding comedy and comedy writing at Humber College. She has also trained at The Making Box, Bad Dog Theatre, and The Assembly. She is a member of the improv troupe “Duck Confetti”, improv duo “Bopit and Yuzu”, and sketch troupe “Crunchy Tiger Comedy”, an all-Asian sketch troupe. She has performed stand-up around Toronto venues including Yuk Yuk’s, Comedy Bar, and the Rivoli. Katie is the head producer and director at Stay Tuned! Improv, where she runs musical improv workshops and shows, including Princess and the Prov, a full-length improvised princess musical. Katie is trained and practiced in stand-up, improv, and sketch; she likes to dip her fingers in all the comedy pies.

AMANDA MUISE

Amanda Muise is a stand-up comic currently living in so-called Kitchener. She is a queer settler, originally from Mi'kma'ki. 

Amanda made her stand-up debut at Rainbow Reels Queer Film Festival in 2021 and has performed at Pinch Cabaret, the Feminist Variety Show, and TWB Comedy nights.

SACHIN SHARMA

Sachin is an improviser-turned-clown with an experimental mindset for physical theatre. After performing at many shows and festivals including SketchFest Toronto, Improv Fest Ireland, Mississauga Fringe Festival and Vancouver Improv Festival, he has co-created communities like HINPROV & platforms like Yes And People to make improv accessible for minorities and under-represneted communities. DR. SARAH BOSTON

Sarah Boston has had a circuitous route to the glamorous world of comedy performance and writing. She is a veterinary cancer surgeon and cancer survivor. (Ironic, right?) Her bestselling memoir, LUCKY DOG: HOW BEING A VETERINARIAN SAVED MY LIFE, was published by The House of Anansi in 2014. LUCKY DOG will make you laugh and ugly cry, sometimes at the same time, most of the time out loud. Sarah’s book got her on the path of comedy writing and eventually stand up comedy. Sarah has taken comedy writing and stand up classes at Second City, Absolute Comedy and the American Comedy Institute. She made the Top 10 in CBC Comedy’s 2019 Next Up amateur comedy competition. She is the founder of a satirical veterinary online newspaper called The Cageliner. It’s like The Onion, but for veterinary peeps, but you can read it too if you want. She is 2023 graduate of the Humber College Comedy Performance and Writing Program. She is the 2023 recipient of the Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award, which recognizes and supports promising comedic performers in the early stages of their careers. In her free time, she enjoys treating dogs and cats with cancer. She is actively seeking representation and conflicts of interest.

BEN GORODETSKY

Ben Gorodetsky is an improviser, writer, filmmaker, and producer based in Kitchener, Ontario. He's the director and host of award-winning, interdisciplinary variety show Pinch Cabaret. His performance work has been presented by The Art Gallery of Ontario, Movement Research at Judson Church, The Tank NYC, CAFKA, Mile Zero Dance, The Guelph Dance Festival, Hillside Fest, Brian Webb Dance Company, Expanse Festival of Movement Arts, Rubaboo Festival, and SpringWorks. He is the former Associate Artistic Director of Rapid Fire Theatre and has performed, taught, and directed improvisation in Atlanta, Detroit, Austin, Philadelphia, NYC, LA, Reunion Island, Vienna, Ljubljana, Montreal, Toronto, Yellowknife, Calgary, and Vancouver. Ben has been nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award in Improv, and he teaches digital video and improvisation at UWaterloo.

KEZ VICARIO-ROBINSON

Kez Vicario-Robinson is a genderqueer, non-binary artistic performer. They have been performing stand-up comedy for the last 5 years in festivals and venues in Toronto, Waterloo region, and surrounding areas. They are an improviser, creator, actor, writer and queer history fanatic! Kez is also a public speaker, talking about their queer and trans experiences and the intersection of being a comedian.

AURORA BROWNE

Aurora Browne is proud to be one of the co-creators, writers, executive producers and stars of CBC’s award-winning Baroness Von Sketch Show. Aurora has been honing her sketch chops since 2000 when she was hired by Toronto’s Second City Troupe. Since then she has appeared on The Writer’s Block, Man Seeking Woman, Orphan Black, The Gavin Crawford Show, InSecurity, and Corner Gas among others. She was also a co-creator, co-writer, executive producer and co-star of the hit web series Newborn Moms, which appeared both on CBC’s and ABC’s digital channels.

Aurora has been nominated for many Canadian Comedy Awards for her work in Toronto’s red hot live sketch and improv scene, and in 2008 won the CCA for Best Female Improviser. She was a nominee for the 2000 Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award. Her son thinks she is hilarious.

DAPHNE COPPER

Daphne Copper is a producer, engineer, performer and multi-instrumentalist composer who has been working in the Canadian music industry for 20 years. They founded Copper Sound Studio in Guelph, ON where they work with fellow artists to bring unique projects to life. They are currently working on a new solo project to be released some time in 2023 :)

KRIS SIDDIQI

Kris Siddiqi is a comedian, actor and writer from the great city of Toronto! Recipient of the 2015 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Male Improviser and the 2014 “Best Of” Now Magazine Awards. Trained in sketch and improvisation since a young age, Kris studied with the world renowned Second City, joined the Mainstage cast in 2009 and wrote 3 revues with them. From there he went to voice work, becoming the Network Voice of Country Music Television, principal roles on cartoons like My Little Pony, Gary & His Demons and more. Kris is also a series regular on the CBC Comedy Panel Show Because News.

Kris’ recent film & tv credits include Family Channel/Netflix’s new show I WOKE UP A VAMPIRE, HBOMax’s TITANS, Aaron Sorkin’s MOLLY’S GAME, Amazon’s THE BOYS, AppleTV’s THE CHANGELING and a recurring face on IFC/CBC’s BARONESS VON SKETCH SHOW. 

His most recent creation was the multi-award winning miniseries BIT PLAYAS. Conceived and originated by Kris, the show would go on to win 2 Canadian Screen Awards for Best Writing and Best Series, Best Representation of Communities Of Color from the Minnesota WebFest 2020, Best Actor in the Toronto WebFest awards, as well as multiple other awards from festivals all over the world. 

And if he wasn’t enough of a huge nerd, Kris is also the sound editor, sound designer and main character for his fantasy radio-drama DWARVEN MOSS, which recently won Best Leisure Podcast from the Canadian Podcast Awards.

LEONARD CHAN

Leonard Chan is a writer and comedian from Toronto, Canada.

As a comedian, he’s been heard on CBC’s The Debaters, Laugh Out Loud, and Sirius/XM radio, seen on stage and television at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, Halifax Comedy Festival, StandUp NBC in New York, Just For Laughs in Montreal, and as an on-air correspondent for This Hour Has 22 Minutes. He's opened for Ronny Chieng, Joel Kim Booster, River Butcher, and K. Trevor Wilson.

As a writer, he’s spent time in the writers room for international hit Kim’s Convenience, Strays, Hello (Again), and 16 Hudson. He was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for his work writing on This Hour Has 22 Minutes and won a Canadian Screen Award for his work as a producer and writer on the 2022 Juno Awards hosted by Simu Liu.

DeAnne Smith, a Canadian Comedy Award winner, has performed at comedy festivals around the world, from Just for Laughs to the Iceland Comedy Festival. Their television credits include Last Comic Standing, and The Late Late Show in the U.S., as well as appearances on CBC, ABC, and BBC. Sarah Bennett is Grimsby-born, Guleph-raised, and Toronto-based comedian and writer. In addition to gracing stages across Toronto on a nightly basis, her most notable credits include Just for Laughs Toronto, Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, Toronto Sketch Festival, and her hit sketch revenue Sarah and Racquel Rule the World. FREDDIE RIVAS & MIGUEL RIVAS

Freddie Rivas is an actor, comedian and puppeteer from Toronto. Credits include CBC’s True Dating Stories and According To Kids, NBA TV’s The Line Up and web series Versus Valerie and The Beaverton’s Very Very Early Morning Coffee. He also once grabbed a fence on an episode of The Handmaid's Tale! This past summer Freddie was tearing up the Second City Mainstage in Toronto. He has performed in some fun festivals including Just For Laughs, JFL42, Field Trip, Spur, Puppets UP!, and NXNE, amongst others.  Freddie is also the host and creator of the very-super-duper successful raptors/comedy basketball podcast, Confederacy of Dunks, on the the Raptors Republic network. He's also the co-creator and co-host of Canada's premiere WNBA podcast, The Pick Up, on the Sonar Podcast Network.

Miguel Rivas is an actor, writer and producer from Toronto, ON. He's probably best known for co-anchoring three seasons of the CTV satirical news program The Beaverton. He has also appeared as a bumbling but well-meaning detective on three seasons of CBC’s Hit Show Pretty Hard Cases. He's been seen on multiple seasons of CBC’s Baroness Von Sketch Show, CTV's hit show Jann, and as a multitude of characters on Amazon's animated hit, Gary and His Demons. Miguel is also the co-creator and executive producer of the hit Tony Ho Podcast on CBC Podcasts. A veteran of the live comedy scene, Miguel has appeared at Just For Laughs, JFL 42, San Francisco Sketchfest, Toronto Sketchfest, Philadelphia Sketchfest and Montreal Sketchfest, and is a founding member of the Canadian Comedy Award winning sketch super troupe Get Some. Miguel has most recently enjoyed writing and performing on the past 6 seasons od CBC Radio's long-running Because News with Gavin Crawford.

TYRA BANDA

Tyra Banda got her start in comedy in 2014 when she joined the University of Alberta Improv Group, and her love of the art was immediate! From there, she performed in many improv festivals around the country, as well as internationally (Seattle Festival of Improv Theatre - 2019). She was part of Rapid Fire Theatre from 2017 to 2019, until moving to Toronto to pursue a diploma in Comedy Writing and Performance at Humber College. While in Toronto she was cast in a Season 7 Featured Players with Bad Dog Theatre, as well as Improv College's Narrative Mainstage Team. She is part of a sketch group called Chuckle Ruckus which have performed on many stages including at the 2021 and 2022 Edmonton Fringe Festivals.

AJAHANIS CHARLES

Ajahnis Charley (they/them/that b*tch) is a Black, Non-Binary comedian and is the Just For Laughs’ New Face of Comedy: Canada. Well, one of ten. But look how pretty they are!

They are an alum of The Second City and they star in the HBO miniseries Station Eleven and Bell Media sitcom Shelved. They’ve written for comedians Craig Robinson and Roman Martinez-Reid, and they have story edited for upcoming comedy series Bria Mack Gets A Life, Stay Tooned, Dirts. Ajahnis writes for news satire platforms This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The Beaverton and Because News. If you hear a pun about butts in Canadian media, they likely had something to do with it.

JOHN BLAIR

Jon Blair has been a fixture in the Toronto sketch comedy community for over 15 years, and a pioneering figure in the city’s solo sketch scene. He is a two-time Best of the Fest winner at Toronto Sketchfest, and won Best Newcomer and Best of the Fest at Montreal Sketchfest. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Jon wrote, performed and filmed the one-man sketch series Now More Than Ever, which ran for four half-hour episodes. Jon wrote on five seasons of the CBC’s This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and currently writes for CBC Radio’s Because News With Gavin Crawford.

Nicole Passmore is a Toronto-based improviser, sketch comedian, and actor. You can catch her every week at Nice Time, Toronto's most fun improv show, guaranteed. She performs regularly with Bad Dog Theatre, and is an alumni of both the Second City National Touring Company and award-winning sketch troupe The Sketchersons. Ben Sosa Wright is a twisted, pretty, Queer, Latinx comedian and writer from Toronto. Ben has performed in comedy clubs and festivals all over North America including Just For Laughs, Limestone Comedy Festival, NXNE, and even headlined Just For Laughs Toronto. You can watch his episode of The New Wave of Standup on CBC Gem. He was also named by CBC Comedy as one of their 15 Canadian Comedians to Watch, if you can believe such a thing! Comedy Sketch Town is a sketch comedy collective from Guelph, Ontario. They came together this year to create the Sketch Comedy Snowball, a series of shows where the group wrote, rehearsed, and staged a brand new 1-hour sketch revue every month, while adding a new writer/performer each time. The casts' credits include The Making-Box Brigade, Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, Winnipeg Improv Festival, Second City FamCo, The Phlegm Fatales, and The Detroit Improv Festival. All aboard! One of the hottest North American acts around, the absurd and unpredictable tag-team duo of Isaac Kessler and Ken Hall take you on a bizarre ride of undefinably funny comedy. Tired of talking heads?
